Evennett Raises Concerns About Adult Education Funding
Speaking in the House of Commons David Evennett MP highlighted the concerns and anger in Bexley Borough about the cuts in funding for adult education. From September increased fees, courses cut and concessions reduced for adult education students will occur as a result of the cuts in the funding of adult education by the Learning and Skills Council.
During Education Question Time (Thursday 16th June) Mr. Evennett spoke up in favour of leisure learning and felt that the government was “letting down adult education.”
Mr. Evennett commented that “further education should not just be for skills, development and training but for leisure learning as well. I am very disappointed that the government confirmed that their priorities are for the 16 to 18 year olds and that fees for adult education would have to rise substantially.”
